The Pulitzer Project

For the week of Thanksgiving, we continue our tradition of choosing our free download track from Chicago composer Leo Sowerby’s 1946 Pulitzer Prize-winning cantata, The Canticle of the Sun, based on a text by St. Francis of Assisi praising all aspects of God’s creation. One track we have not offered in previous years is the verse:

Praised be my Lord for our sister Water who is very serviceable
unto us and humble and precious and clean.

The soothing performance is by the Grant Park Orchestra and Chorus, conducted by Carlos Kalmar and comes from their album The Pulitzer Project (our featured CD of the Week, 25% OFF), containing three of the first four Pulitzer Prize winners in music, two in world-premiere recordings (including the Sowerby).

Happy Thanksgiving! And —

Happy Listening,
