25% off Notable Women: Trios by Today's Female Composers
We commence this week’s free download on July 16, the day Apollo 11, the first lunar landing mission, was launched in 1969. In honor of this auspicious anniversary, our free download of the week is Chicago composer Augusta Read Thomas’s 2005 composition Moon Jig, as spiritedly performed by the Lincoln Trio on its 2011 album, Notable Women: Trios by Today’s Female Composers (our Featured CD of the Week — 25% OFF, this week only). Thomas describes her piece as “a series of outgrowths and variations, which are organic and, at every level, concerned with transformations and connections.” It begins in the lowest registers of the piano (dark side of the moon?) and concludes in the upper reaches of the strings as though “leap[ing] skyward and moonward.”
