Musical America’s 2017 Ensemble of the Year, four time Grammy winners Eighth Blackbird returns with its ninth recording for Cedille. Based on the poetry of Pulitzer Prize winner Paul Muldoon, Dan Trueman’s orginal music explores the legendary Irish tale Táin Bó Cúailnge, in which two brothers are forced to battle one another for three days. Eighth Blackbird’s performance includes vocals by celebrated Celtic singer Iarla Ó Lionáird. (September)

Paddle to the Sea
Paddle to the Sea reimagines the soundtrack of the Oscar-nominated short film about a wooden Indian figure that travels from Lake Superior to the Atlantic Ocean. In addition to this original work by members of Third Coast Percussion, the program includes new arrangements of Philip Glass’s Aguas de Amazonia, the premiere of Jacob Druckman’s Reflections on the Nature of Water, and Chigwaya, a traditional Zimbabwean Shona call to water spirits. (November)
